With the attack by Russia on Ukraine, war ist again ignited in Europe. This assault threatens peace troughout the continent and indeed th whole world. This urgent and envolving crisis requires the attention and solidarity of the global christian community.

The recent floods in Germany, The Netherlands and Belgium have led to a catastrophic loss of life and livelihood. At the time of writing, 164 persons are confirmed dead, while a further 1,300 persons are still missing in Germany alone. Tens of thousands of homes have been flooded out, and powerlines to several areas have still not been restored. The floods were caused by record amounts of rainfall over 48 hours …

I want to start by thanking for the encouraging and empathetic messages and prayers received from you. We are overhelmed with your love and care for the innocent Lebanese who suffered one of the most tragic days of their lives. Unfortunately, they have to bear its consequences for years.

WCRC letter to the turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, concerning the Change of the Status of the Hagia Sophia

Today we approach you to express our grave concern about the dangerous impact that this change of the status of the Hagia Sophia will have.

On 10 July 2020, the Turkish Council of State had decreed that the Hagia Sophia can only be used as a mosque and not for any other purpose. On the same day you issued a presidential decree ordering Hagia Sophia to be opened for Muslim prayers, which are planned to commence on 24 July.

Hagia Sophia is the most historic Christian monument in the East

While Europe enjoys religious freedom, peaceful coexistence and celebrates cultural diversity, Turkey disregards these basic human values. The conversion of Hagia Sophia is one of a series of Turkish acts in South Eastern Mediterranean, which causes unrest with unpredictable consequences for world peace.
